Bomet University has inaugurated its new University Council, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s development and governance.
The council, chaired by Prof John Shiundu, was inaugurated on Friday and tasked with providing strategic leadership, governance and oversight as the university pursues its institutional goals.
Prof Shiundu will be joined by Ms Rose Chepkorir, Dr Emily Kwamboka Nyagarama, Mr Reuben Cherukut Butaki, Mr Fredrick Njoroge and Mr Amos Okello as members of the council.
Ms Eunice Wakofula will serve as an alternate member representing the Principal Secretary, State Department for Higher Education and Research in the Ministry of Education, while Ms Winfred Njoroge will represent the Inspectorate of State Corporations.
Strategic direction
The inauguration comes at an important stage in the growth of Bomet University, which continues to expand its academic programmes while strengthening research, innovation, partnerships and community engagement.
The new council is expected to provide strategic direction and oversight to support the university’s long-term development and ensure effective governance of the institution.
Its mandate will include guiding the university in implementing its strategic priorities, strengthening institutional systems and supporting initiatives aimed at enhancing the quality of teaching, research and innovation.
The council’s inauguration also provides an opportunity for the university to consolidate its governance structures as it seeks to position itself as an important centre for higher education, research and innovation in the region.
The university has continued to grow its profile since it was awarded a charter, with increased focus on expanding programmes and infrastructure to meet the needs of learners and the wider community.
