The body of a secondary school girl who disappeared from their home on Tuesday at Alupe village in Teso South sub county, Busia County, has been discovered in a well.
According to Perepetwa Asio, her daughter Susan Akuku went to school as usual on Tuesday and came back shortly after claiming to be sick.
“I asked her why she had come back and she told me that she was sick. She then breastfed her one and half year-old baby girl and disappeared,” said Asio.
The student had not turned up by that evening prompting them to mount a search for her.
When the mother visited the school the following morning, the Deputy Principal said that he had sent her home the previous day to bring her parents to school.
“The Deputy Principal told me that my daughter had quarreled with another girl accusing her of having a love affair with the boy she had borne a child with,” said Asio.
Three days later, the girl’s body was discovered floating in a well in the neighborhood.
“Someone had gone to fetch water in the well before he spotted her body floating on water,” said Asio amid sobs.
Her body was retrieved from the well by area police officers who were assisted by disaster officers from Busia County government and moved to Alupe Mortuary for postmortem.
