The call for schools to embrace the “Beyond Vision 2030” concept in creative activities by the President offers Kenya’s education sector an opportunity to rethink how learners are prepared for the future. More than a theme for school competitions, it should inspire meaningful conversations about the kind of society and economy Kenya seeks to build after 2030. Sustainable national transformation requires more than ambitious goals; it demands a clear vision, a practical mission and an education system that equips the next generation to achieve them.
The Ministry of Education has an important role to play in raising the bar through the effective implementation of Competency-Based Education (CBE). If properly implemented and adequately supported, CBE provides a framework for nurturing learners who are creative, innovative, skilled and guided by strong values. No country can achieve meaningful and sustainable development without a clear educational framework that prepares its citizens for the challenges and opportunities ahead.
Education must therefore move beyond an examination-centred approach. Kenya’s future will depend on young people who can think critically, solve problems, embrace technology, communicate effectively and transform ideas into practical solutions. Creative and co-curricular activities are not merely avenues for competition; they are important platforms for identifying talent, building confidence and developing competencies that contribute to nation-building.

The coming year presents a unique opportunity for schools across the country. Every performance, innovation, sporting event and exhibition can communicate hope, creativity, patriotism and a shared commitment to Kenya’s future. Learners should be encouraged to see themselves not merely as beneficiaries of national development, but as future architects of the Kenya they want to inherit.
The responsibility now rests with the Ministry of Education and its stakeholders to turn this aspiration into a practical and sustainable programme. Teachers, school leaders, parents, learners, curriculum developers, the private sector and development partners must work together to ensure that the vision is translated into meaningful experiences within and beyond the classroom. Adequate resources, teacher capacity-building, innovation and continuous stakeholder engagement will be essential.
Beyond Vision 2030 should therefore be more than a theme attached to school competitions. It should become part of a broader conversation about the knowledge, skills, values and competencies Kenya needs in the decades ahead. The Ministry must provide the leadership and framework, while schools provide the environment in which learners can experiment, create, innovate and dream.

The Kenya beyond 2030 will be shaped by the learners we educate today. If we want a more innovative, skilled, resilient and prosperous nation tomorrow, then the work must begin in our classrooms, laboratories, playing fields, stages and creative spaces today.
