A new multi-purpose hall and kitchen complex valued at Ksh10.49 million has been commissioned at Belgut Starehe Girls Centre in Kericho County, providing additional learning and dining space for students.
The project was funded through contributions from Browns Plantations Kenya Limited, Finlays, and proceeds from the 2025 Belgut Marathon. Construction was undertaken through the Finlays Community Trust.
The facility, which can accommodate about 720 people, is expected to ease infrastructure challenges at the school, which has more than 380 students. It will be used for dining, assemblies, examinations, indoor learning activities and co-curricular programmes. The hall will also be available for community activities in Kapsuser Ward.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot praised private sector and community efforts that have supported education and development projects in the region.
Belgut Member of Parliament (MP) Nelson Koech said the Belgut Marathon was introduced to mobilise resources for supporting students from disadvantaged backgrounds after it became difficult to sustain sponsorships through the National Government Constituencies Development Fund alone.
He noted that the initiative has attracted partners who have helped expand support for education programmes in the area.
The completion of the hall is expected to improve learning conditions at the institution while providing a venue for community meetings and other social activities.
