As April’s retooling of 19000 teachers recruited last December ends, it is becoming clear that the Members of Parliament have succeeded in assisting the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) in employing additional teachers.
Education News has confirmed that additional teachers attended the training venues, an issue that raised eyebrows amongst the December cohort.
According to the findings from various regions, the Commission invited the teachers employed by MPs to this April’s exercise.
In the Eastern region, the Tigania Sub-county had 62 instead of 51 teachers, Mukaa had 76 instead of 74, and the Mutomo Sub-county had 96 instead of 94.
In the Western Region, Bungoma West Sub-county had 82 trainees instead of the 71 recruited in December. Matungu Sub-county saw 81 trainees attend the training instead of the expected 70.
In the Mumias West Sub-county, 18 new recruits participated in the training, adding to the 58 recruited in December. Butere had its share of 10 recruits.

Among the seven sub-counties visited in the Rift Valley region, the Cheptais Sub-county had 11 more teachers, Nandi South 6, Baringo Central 49, Kesses 18, Soy 20, Turbo 38, and Gilgil 6. Kisumu Central had seven teachers in the Nyanza region, while the Malaba Sub-county had 13 more.

Reports from various regions clearly show that TSC has recently surrendered its employment function to the political class and senior government officers.
The actions that generated outright criticism from the general public seem to have penetrating roots in teacher promotions, as was alleged after the release of the January interview results.
The teachers, on their part, have moved to castigate their unions for what they termed a continued latecomer tendency on critical issues affecting them.
The tutors are of the opinion that the unions always wait until they sink into challenges before coming out to issue non-binding statements.
