The Vice Chancellor (VC) of the Open University of Kenya (OUK) Professor Elijah Omwenga has invited the public to apply for courses in the October/November intake.

In a memo, the VC said the available undergraduate courses include Bachelor of Data Science, Bachelor of Science in Cyber Security and Digital Forensics, Bachelor of Business and Entrepreneurship, Bachelor of Economics and Statistics, and Bachelor of Technology Education.

For postgraduate studies, OUK offers Postgraduate Diplomas in Leadership and Accountability, and Learning Design and Technology.

Prospective students keen to join OUK’s educational concept will have to meet the minimum entry requirements, which can be summarized as follows:

For undergraduate programmes, candidates must possess a mean grade of C+ or above at KCSE or its equivalent.

Alternatively,

  1. They can present a diploma,
  2. A professional qualification from recognized institutions,
  3. A KCSE certificate or
  4. Equivalent coupled with a foundational certificate,
  5. A bridging course from recognized institutions,
  6. A Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education with a minimum of one Principal and Subsidiary Pass, or
  7. Evidence of a KCSE certificate or equivalent along with a portfolio highlighting relevant work experience, workplace training of two years, or the completion of two short courses lasting at least three months each in a relevant field.

Senate-recognized qualifications and a bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution also serve as valid entry routes.

For those interested in postgraduate diploma programmes, a bachelor’s degree from an institution recognized by the Commission for University Education is required.

Application guidelines have been provided for prospective students. For candidates with KCSE qualifications meeting the first criterion, applications should be submitted online through the KUCCPS portal.

Meanwhile, those interested in bachelor’s programmes based on the 2nd to 7th criteria and postgraduate programmes should apply through the OUK admissions portal.

The announcement also extends a warm invitation to international students from neighbouring countries and beyond to apply for the OUK experience.

No application fee will be charged for those seeking admission for the academic year 2023/2024.

One of the noteworthy highlights is that OUK learners stand to benefit from the government’s funding model for higher education, making them eligible for scholarships and loans to support their academic pursuits.
