Ambira High School in Ugunja Sub-County, Siaya County, has announced plans to host the 8th edition of its annual Open Sports Tournament, scheduled for February 7 and 8, 2026, at the school’s sports grounds.

In an official circular addressed to school administrators and games masters, the institution invited schools, colleges and sports clubs to take part in the two-day event, which has steadily grown into a prominent fixture on the regional schools’ sports calendar. The tournament targets both senior secondary schools and Junior Secondary Schools (JSS), highlighting Ambira High School’s continued investment in sports development across different education levels.

A wide range of disciplines will be contested during the tournament. These include football, basketball, handball, volleyball, hockey and rugby in the 7s and Under-15 categories, all in boys’ divisions for both senior and JSS teams. Racquet games will be open to both boys and girls, while netball will feature girls’ teams drawn from senior and junior secondary schools.

Organisers say the tournament aims to provide a competitive platform for young athletes to showcase their talents, sharpen their skills and gain exposure through high-level competition. Beyond the pitch, the event is also expected to foster interaction and sportsmanship among learners from different institutions.
