A 19 year old former night guard who worked at an establishment in Nyeri and who abducted a 14 year old girl has been arrested in Tanzania.

According to a tweet by DCI, the unfortunate incident happened when the standard 8 school girl was on  mid-term break.

On the fateful night, the girl had gone out of their house to answer a call of nature at around 2 am. The parents only realized that their daughter was missing the following morning.

The concerned parents reported the matter at the nearby Gatitu police post. Given the seriousness of the case, Nyeri county criminal investigation officer John Gacheru took over the investigations and later passed the case to the national headquarters for specialized attention and treatment.

DCI elite Special Service Unit (SSU) and Tanzania’s regional crime office based in Arusha apprehended Alex Jonathan Malel, who had abducted the girl.

The specialised crime unit cornered Malel in Engarika area in Mto wa Mbu town, 514 km away from the home of the girl’s parents.

Whereas the girl was rescued, the abductor was arrested and is currently at Kituo cha Polisi cha Mto wa Mbu in Monduli District.  He is waiting to answer to rape and abduction charges in a Tanzanian court of law.

The DCI appreciated the prompt action taken by all units while the family of the girl was so overjoyed during the reunion.

Senior chief Kimei asked parents and guardians to take care of their teenage girls since at such age, they can easily be tricked or even be kidnapped.

Reacting to the tweet Mzee Mzima opined, ‘’14 year old girl and 19 year old Male, that girl wasn’t abducted, it was an affair.’’ He goes on to cheekily say that the title of the story should have been, ‘14 year old girl saved from marriage.’
