KNUT members urged to save money for retirement

The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) has advised members to embrace careful saving programs for them to have a flow of cash even after their retirement.

Speaking in Nyamira, the National KNUT treasurer John Matiangi told teachers that retirement from work is not doom but graduation to another step of life. He, therefore, urged them to rehearse well by focusing on their financial stability.

The Unionist had gone to console the family of the former KNUT Executive Secretary the late Protus Nyansera Oroo.

Matiangi mourned Nyansera as a servant who was dedicated in championing the plight of teachers in the country.

“As one of the pioneers of the Union in Kisii and Nyamira, he made sure that teachers are united and spoke in one voice for their welfare. The treasurer appealed to the current secretary to emulate the examples of those who set the base for them,” said Matiangi.

The outspoken teacher and community advisor Protus Nyansera died after a short illness.

He also served as the chairman of Abagusii Council of Elders and Development, a position that he held until his death.

When he was the branch KNUT Executive Secretary, he worked with other prominent members from Nyanza and to national level.
