The Kisii County Education Board Chairman Prof Henry Onderi has asked management of schools to prepare for the full re-opening in January.
Onderi said the preparations should include putting in place facilities that will enable the schools comply with measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
He asked school boards to ensure there are adequate handwashing facilities, sanitizers and thermal guns.
Saying Kenyans must learn to live with the disease, Onderi stressed the importance of high standards of discipline among students and members of staff to avoid outbreaks.
He, however, acknowledged that there was a challenge of inadequate classrooms and desks in many schools and asked individuals and leaders to combine efforts in addressing the shortages.
“‘This is a critical moment that calls for consolidated efforts,” said Onderi.
Learners with disabilities, he said, should be given consideration when developing school infrastructure.
He also reminded parents not to overspend during the Christmas festivities bearing in mind that they will be required to pay school fees in January.
