Although Kwale County recorded a 70% drop in teen pregnancies this year compared to 2019, Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya has urged parents to monitor their children as part of efforts to contain rising cases of teen pregnancies.

Faulting the parents for abdicating their roles at Kwale cultural village where he spoke, the governor said moral decadence has breached the traditional fabric thus creating room for the vice to thrive.

“If society takes up the matter and actively gets involved in instilling and maintaining morals, then the future of our children will be successful,’’ said Mvurya.

Mvurya who regretted that most parents have skirted their responsibilities to teachers and the government said that the county can easily record zero cases if parents, community and the county government play their active roles.

He added that all have roles to play in ensuring school children do not get recruited into bad companies.

“The situation might get out of hand if we do not protect our children,” said Mvurya who urged men to support women in raising children.
