Despite reporting Covid-19 cases amongst learners, teachers and non-teaching staff since learning institution were reopened for Grade Four, Standard Eight and Form Four, the government is on free wheel.
The Cabinet Secretary for Education Prof George Magoha while assessing learning and delivery of desks at Uhuru Gardens Primary School yesterday said learners who resumed physical learning some weeks ago should get ready for the national exams.
“There are no changes and we are not planning as of this moment to close learning institutions because of the Covid-19,” said Magoha.
“Yes Covid-19 is spiking and it is not only in this country. What we are grappling with is whether to open for the other children or not,” Magoha said
According to the CS, the set time table shall remain in place. KCPE for 2020 is set to kick off on 22nd March 2021 to 24th while KCSE exams is set to start on 25th and will last for three weeks.
The CS affirmed that marking will be done between April 19th and May 7th 2021.
“For now, the timetable for examinations remains and children should be urged to continue preparing,” added Magoha.
Speaking during the visit, Prof Magoha issued a stern warning to the artisans who do shoddy works.
“If there are people who are still playing games and they do not want to implement the tenders, then we will award those willing to work,” Magoha warns.
