Kenya National Parents Association Migori branch has urged the government to consider the plight of parents on its directive towards payment of school fees.
The Chair Migori branch Mr. Odondi argued that most parents lost jobs whilst other’s businesses shrunk thus making the payment of the fee a tall order.
“Most parents have been affected by the pandemic and the money which they paid in the first term had also not been utilized. The Ministry of Education should, therefore, consider their fate as they contemplate the resumption of face-to-face learning,” said Odondi.
He, however, asked parents to give support to the ministry in the process to ensure learners resume learning as soon as possible in conducive and safe learning environments with adherence to the Covid-19 protocols.
He further urged parents’ representatives in schools to work closely with the administration and board members to aid in preparation ahead of the possible reopening.
“As the ministry struggles to ensure all the safety measures are adhered to in the learning institutions, parents should work towards preparing their children with all the requirements,” said Odondi.
“We share the thoughts of Kenya National Union of Teachers Secretary General Wilson Sossion on the future of our children who might have conceived over the holidays to ensure they are not denied their right to education which is the responsibility of parents and guardians,” added Odondi.
Mr. Odondi, however, suggested a phased reopening of schools in citing that it will enhance the safety of both teachers and learners in school.
