Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University donates to Covid-19 kitty

Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST) has donated disinfecting agents worth Sh. 200,000 to the Siaya County government towards the fight against Covid-19.

The assortment of disinfectants is set to be distributed in markets, hospitals, and other public places.

Ms. Mumina Bonaya, Chief Administrative Secretary, State Department for University Education and Research lauded the efforts of the University to produce the innovative solution of disinfectants and hand sanitizers

 “We acknowledge and deeply appreciate the university for producing disinfecting agents to be used in the fight against Covid-19,” said Ms. Bonaya.

 “We further take note of the University’s willingness and commitment to partner with the Siaya County Emergency Response Committee in the mass distribution of the antiseptic hand wash, hand sanitizers, and disinfectants to the residents,” added Ms. Bonaya.

While handing over the consignment to Siaya County Governor Cornell Rassanga at Siaya County Referral Hospital, Vice-Chancellor Prof  Stephen Agong’ reiterated that the university is committed to meeting its corporate social responsibility in contributing towards the prevention of Covid-19 infections in the County.

“As the university, we are aware of the fact that times are changing and we need to change with the times by innovating and coming up with homegrown solutions,” said Prof  Agong’,”.

The VC added that the university will continue to demonstrate its responsiveness to the needs of the community.

However, Siaya County Governor, H.E Cornel Rasanga expressed his appreciation to the university for supporting the County’s efforts towards the fight against the Covid-19.

“We are, however,  grateful to JOOUST for its peerless efforts in the fight against Covid-19 pandemic,” said Rassanga.

The disinfecting agents were produced and packaged by the School of Biological and Physical Sciences led by the Dean, Prof Regina Nyunja alongside, Dr. Angeline Ochung’ and Dr Richard Magwanga.
