Parents have been urged to advise or rather take good care of their children as the Covid-19 cases hit the ceiling.
Speaking to Education News in her office, Rongo Sub County Municipal Chairperson Millicent Marera said that children have been seen loitering in the nearby shopping centers with little knowledge on the monster in the country.
“Girl child education may be hampered if parents do not take good care of them because they are vulnerable to sex pests and need a lot of care,” said Marera.
She added that cases of rape, premarital sex, pregnancies and early marriages have been reported to have increased probably due to the idleness that resulted from closure of the learning institution.
Marera who is also a teacher at Kamondi School and a Kenya National Union of Teachers’ (KNUT) official said that parents have an integral role to play in assisting their children protect themselves.
