KICD signs MOU with human rights commission

In an attempt make competency Based Curriculum (CBC) more inclusive Kenya Institute Curriculum Development (KICD) has signed memorandum of understanding with Kenya National Human Rights Commission (KNHRC) to ensure each and every child enjoys quality education regardless of his or her status.

According to the KICD bulletin this must be so since child rights have become part and parcel of curriculum reforms. In this respect children with autism, intersex, and other vulnerable groups have to go through with their education without fear or discrimination.

KICD collaborated with Sense International developed a curriculum for Learner Support Assistants (LSA) in special needs education.

Similarly the KICD has been in consultation with other bodies like the Ministry of Education, KNEC in order to focus on competencies, flexible and offer chances for specialization in order to offer a balance between summative and formative assessment.

In the same breadth a team of curriculum experts, from the MOE, TSC, Universities, and Teacher training colleges, Kenya Secondary, Principal Association, and Kenya Primary Schools Association validated diploma design for teacher training last year. The validation was later approved by the academic committee.

KICD also held CBC interactive digital content for primary teachers who went on online and practical training for a month in 2019.
