There was drama as three girls who recently sat their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) stormed an Administration Police camp in Poi, Baringo North Sub County demanding to be impregnated.
According to Kapkoiwo Sub location assistant chief Joshua Kale, the girls in their teens from Poi Boarding and Kabarkebo primary schools might want to cut short their plans to join secondary school next year.
He said the officers reported the incident to him, saying the girls
sent their younger brothers to call them out around 10pm.
“The girls said they no longer wanted to proceed to secondary school, so they demanded pregnancies. We wanted to discipline them immediately but to avoid issues, we had to send them away and later reported the matter to the area assistant chief,” an officer said.
However, Poi Primary School head teacher Joseph Lagat said he is not aware of such weird incidents.
“I am only aware of one notorious girl from the neighbouring school who used to rummage the entire village even during school days,” Lagat said.
The head teacher confirmed there were indiscipline cases among teenage girls in the area, saying they not only pestered security officers but also male teachers.
He further called on police to investigate the matter, saying concerted efforts are needed from all stakeholders especially during the December holidays.
It is the same area where a 15-year old girl committed suicide recently, leaving behind her four months old baby.
The deceased sat her KCPE in 2016 but failed to join Form One after scoring 284 marks.
In similar incidents, four KCPE and two KCSE candidates in the county sat their exams in hospitals after giving birth.
The KCSE candidates are from Kaptimbor and Timboiwo Secondary Schools in Baringo Central.
This happens amid calls by leaders countywide to investigate the rising cases of pregnancies in schools, and bring the culprits to book.
