Declining education standards cause concern

By Boniface Mulu

Kitui County Education Director, Julia Omunga has raised concern over the declining academic performance in Kitui County.
The director challenged parents to take their children’s education seriously.
“All stakeholders must work together to improve the region’s poor education standards. This is especially needed between parents and school administrators,” she said.
She announced that currently the county has a total of 428 public and 12 private secondary schools. Also there are 1,376 public primary schools and 166 private primary schools and 90 special needs education institutions.
Speaking to thousands of school children, parents, teachers and other education stakeholders during this year’s Kitui County Education Day she said the dwindling standards of education is worrying and called for policies to reverse the downward trend.
“Performance in national examinations has not been good. In the past couple of years, we have witness a downward trend. This cannot be allowed to go on,” she said.
