MPs told to allocate more cash for hiring teachers

A Teachers Service Commission (TSC) official wants Members of Parliament to allocate more funds for hiring teachers in Samburu County.
County TSC Director Suleman Odipo  said there is a shortage of 1,500 teachers in both primary and secondary schools.
“If you have a class of 70 learners, and you give a teacher three classes, he or she may not be able to mark all the books,” he said.
The director said lack of enough teachers results in indiscipline among students and unrest, thus leading to Schools not performing well in national examinations.
He urged the commission to lower qualifications and confirm acting deputy head teachers for improved management of schools.
