County adopts Education Support Bill

By Godfrey Wamalwa

Busia County Assembly has adopted the County Education Support (Amendment) Bill, 2018 that now awaits Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong’s signature before it becomes law.
The passing of the County Education Support Scheme is good news to students who can now access bursaries and Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) assistance.
The Assembly that was chaired by Deputy Speaker Lawrence Okaale passed the amendment Bill after three sittings that started with the tabling of the Education Committee Report by chairman Linus Asiba.
County Executive Committee Member for Education and Vocational Training John Mwami said the Controller of Budget had given the County Government up to June 15th to submit the amendment bill to facilitate the release of funds.
The scheme will give provision for the granting of bursaries,
scholarships, revolving scheme, vocational training support and grant disbursement.
