  • Riara University has launched an internal inquiry under its student disciplinary framework after a viral video allegedly showing its students assaulting and threatening social media personality Jahenda in a club restroom.
  • The university says it rejects violence, intimidation and harassment, and notes that off-campus conduct still violates its code of conduct.

Riara University has opened an internal inquiry after a clip shared widely online showed a group of women threatening and attacking another woman inside a restroom.

In a statement on October 2, 2026, the institution said the footage had put it in the spotlight. Reports had suggested that some of the women seen in the video are its students. The university stressed that it rejects violence, intimidation, bullying and harassment in any form.

The incident is alleged to have happened away from campus. Even so, the university said such behaviour clashes with its values and its code of conduct for students. In other words, being off premises does not place a student’s actions beyond its reach.

Consequently, university leadership has started a review under its student disciplinary framework. It also promised to cooperate fully with any investigative authorities that take up the matter.

The video was filmed in the restroom of a club. It shows a social media personality, Jahenda, being cornered by a group of women. Several of them record on their phones and laugh as she is humiliated.

One woman in the group shoves Jahenda around. She also grabs her by the throat while hurling threats at her.

Meanwhile, the video has stirred anger among Kenyans online. Many users want those involved to face consequences. Others are pressing Riara University to act quickly and to consider suspending the students concerned while the disciplinary process runs its course.

For now, the review is still at an early stage, and the university has not announced any disciplinary action.
