Teachers across Machakos County this week are celebrating World Teachers’ Day with games, a marathon and tree planting.
County Teachers Service Commission Director Jamal Ahmed Ali said teachers had planted 6,700 trees to mark World Teachers’ Day 2026, whose official celebration will be on October 5.
“We have many activities including volleyball, football, tug of war and marathon. Yesterday we were at Machakos School. Today we are planting trees at Muvuti Boys School and the activity is going on in all sub-counties,” Ahmed said at ABC Muvuti Boys Senior School on Wednesday.
He said teachers will showcase the activities in Embu on Thursday ahead of the climax on October 5.
“We are enjoying ourselves and telling others about the importance of a teacher,” said Ahmed.
Teachers, learners plant trees
Learners and teachers planted both fruit and non-fruit trees around the Muvuti school compound.
School Principal Dr Justus Mulove said the exercise was meant to make the environment green and conducive for learning.
“We have planted trees with our employer, the TSC, both fruit and non-fruit trees. We want to reclaim the environment and make it good for our boys to stay and learn,” said Dr Mulove.

The Principal said the school has a shortage of teachers in the Humanities department and appealed to TSC to bridge the gap.
