Tala Girls Senior School on Saturday joined officials from the Kangundo-Tala Municipality to mark World Environmental Health Day 2026, in activities led by Municipal Manager Mr Justus Kiteng’u.
The municipality launched the unclogging of drainage systems and cleaning of market areas as part of preparedness measures ahead of the predicted El Niño rains. Students from the school swept streets and collected litter to help keep the town clean.
Speaking in Tala town, Mr Kiteng’u thanked the Tala Girls administration for taking time out of their school schedule to work with the county government in improving the environment. He urged residents to help keep the town clean and warned that those caught littering will be arrested.

“We have bins, so dump your waste into bins and avoid littering. We also have a compactor which moves around twice per week, so keep your waste and avail it when the compactor comes to your neighbourhood,” said Mr Kiteng’u.
The exercise seeks to keep public spaces clean, prevent flooding and safeguard the health of residents.
Mr Kiteng’u said Governor Wavinya Ndeti continues to prioritise the welfare of residents by promoting clean, safe and healthy spaces while ensuring wananchi access quality services and live dignified lives.
