- The Commission has scheduled the activities as a build-up to World Teachers’ Day celebrations on October 5.
- The events have been planned to take place across all eight TSC regional headquarters, offering teachers and the public opportunities to engage with the Commission.
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) will hold an Open Week from September 27 to October 1 as part of activities leading up to the 2026 World Teachers’ Day celebrations.
The week-long programme will provide an opportunity for teachers and other stakeholders to engage with the Commission through a series of activities, including the TSC Run, medical services, recognition of awardees, tree planting and an Open Day.
The programme will kick off on Sunday, September 27, with the TSC Run, which will be held alongside the Teachers’ Run planned across the Commission’s regional headquarters. The following day, September 28, will be dedicated to medical services, while September 29 will feature recognition of awardees at the sub-county level, alongside medical services.

On September 30, the Commission will undertake tree-planting activities as it continues to promote environmental conservation among teachers and communities. The Open Week will culminate in the TSC Open Day on October 1, providing members of the public and education stakeholders with an opportunity to interact with the Commission and learn more about its services.
The activities will pave the way for World Teachers’ Day celebrations on October 5, 2026. The celebrations will be held under the theme, “Standing with teachers: 60 years of protecting the profession, advancing its status and shaping our futures.” The national celebrations will also carry the local message, “Twawaenzi Walimu, Mashujaa Wetu,” highlighting the contribution of teachers to the country’s education system and development.
According to the programme, World Teachers’ Day activities will be hosted at all eight TSC regional headquarters in Nairobi, Nakuru, Nyeri, Embu, Kakamega, Kisumu, Mombasa and Garissa.

The 2026 celebrations come as the international education community marks 60 years since the adoption of the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers, which set standards on teachers’ rights, responsibilities and working conditions.
The TSC has organised the activities as part of efforts to recognise teachers’ contribution to education while creating opportunities for engagement between the Commission, teachers and the wider public.
