Police in Kisii have arrested the headteacher of Rigena Comprehensive School in Gucha South Sub-County following allegations that he impregnated four pupils at the school.
According to local reports, the arrest was made on Friday, September 25, 2026, after parents and guardians filed complaints with the area chief and police. The suspect is currently in police custody as investigations continue.
Following the incident, Kisii County Deputy Governor Elijah Obebo called for a speedy police investigation into the allegations and for the suspect to be arraigned in court to answer to the allegations.
Speaking at a public gathering on Friday, Obebo thanked Kisii Police Commander Ronald Kirui and his security officers for the quick action they took to apprehend the suspect.
Deputy governor warns against informal settlements
Obebo warned parents of the four affected girls against being lured into holding kangaroo courts with the suspect or accepting bribes and compromises at the expense of the minors.
A majority of residents of the village in Amaiko Location, Gucha South Sub-County, claimed that two of the four affected girls had already given birth and were the ones who revealed the matter, prompting parents to report it to the area chief, who sought the help of police to arrest the suspect and record statements that will assist in the investigation.
Education officials from the sub-county office are said to have visited the school to assess the situation and ensure learning continues while safeguarding and providing counselling to the affected learners.

Authorities have not released the identities of the pupils in order to protect them as minors.
Efforts by Education News to get a comment from education officials did not succeed by the time of publishing this story.
