- Teachers from 14 Rift Valley counties will converge in Nakuru for the World Teachers’ Day Marathon.
- The Sunday event will feature 5km and 10km races as part of nationwide celebrations.
- Teachers unable to compete have also been encouraged to walk and support the wellness initiative.
Teachers from 14 counties in the Rift Valley region will converge in Nakuru on Sunday, September 27, 2026, for the World Teachers’ Day Marathon.
The event, organised as part of nationwide activities to mark World Teachers’ Day, will bring together teachers for a 5km and 10km road race aimed at promoting healthy living and celebrating the teaching profession.
The 10km race will start at 6am from Chester Hotel near Afraha Stadium, while the 5km race will begin at the Pork Centre near Menengai High School.
Teachers invited to participate
The Nakuru Regional Director’s office has invited all teachers who registered for the marathon through the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) online platform to participate.
Designated routes have been prepared for both races, with teachers from across the 14 counties expected to take part.
The Teachers Run will also be held simultaneously at regional headquarters in Nairobi, Nakuru, Nyeri, Embu, Kakamega, Kisumu, Mombasa and Garissa.
Teachers who may not participate in the competitive races have also been encouraged to walk and show their support for the initiative.
Organisers said the event will provide an opportunity for teachers to unite, promote wellness and recognise their contribution to the country’s education system.
The 2026 celebrations will also mark 60 years of efforts to protect and advance the teaching profession.

World Teachers’ Day is observed annually on October 5, with this year’s activities providing an opportunity to celebrate educators and highlight their role in shaping society.
