The Eldoret National Polytechnic (TENP) has earned international recognition after ranking among the world’s institutions committed to sustainable learning and green campus development.
TENP was ranked 1,547th globally in the 2026 UI GreenMetric World University Rankings, placing it 82nd in Africa and 6th in Kenya. According to the rankings, TENP emerged first among TVET institutions in Kenya included in the ranking, marking a significant milestone in its sustainability efforts.
The ranking, which was announced in Baku, Azerbaijan, highlighted institutions making efforts to promote environmental sustainability within their learning environments. The recognition reflects the institution’s commitment to maintaining a green, clean and sustainable learning environment, while strengthening its position among institutions embracing sustainability in education.
UI GreenMetric assesses participating institutions based on various areas of sustainability, including infrastructure and setting, energy and climate change, waste management, water, transportation, education and research, as well as governance and digitalisation.

The 2026 ranking featured institutions from around the world, allowing TENP to showcase Kenya’s growing investment in sustainable technical and vocational education. The institution’s achievement places it alongside several Kenyan universities featured in the ranking, with Strathmore University leading the Kenyan list, followed by Bomet University, Islamic University of Kenya, Karatina University and Kaimosi Friends University.
For TENP, the ranking signals the institution’s growing focus on integrating sustainability into its learning environment and institutional development.
