Construction of a new academic block at Kamangu Secondary School in Nachu Ward, Kiambu County, is set to give the institution a major facelift, with five classrooms, two science laboratories and administration offices being added to the school’s facilities.
The project is expected to expand the school’s learning space, ease pressure caused by a growing student population and provide a better environment for both classroom and practical learning.
The development was highlighted during an inspection tour by Kikuyu Member of Parliament Kimani Ichung’wa, who described the investment as part of efforts to strengthen schools and create better opportunities for learners.
“The construction of this academic block is not just about putting up walls and roofs. It is about creating an environment where our children can learn, dream, and compete with learners from any part of the country,” Ichung’wa said.
Improved facilities for science learning
The two laboratories are expected to give students improved access to practical science lessons, an area that has previously been affected by limited facilities.
“For a long time, our students have been sharing limited facilities, especially in sciences. With these laboratories, we are opening doors for them to excel in fields that will drive the economy of this country,” he added.
Ichung’wa said the project forms part of a wider programme to improve learning infrastructure in schools across the constituency, noting that learners should not be disadvantaged by their geographical location.
He further urged the contractor to complete the facility within the given timeline and to maintain the required standards. He also asked residents to protect and take ownership of the facility once it is handed over to the school.
School administrators welcomed the development, saying the additional facilities would help accommodate the increasing number of learners and improve the delivery of science subjects.

The construction reflects continued investment in school infrastructure, with the new facilities expected to provide learners with more space for academic work, practical lessons and administration.
