- MoE has ordered Kakamega High School to release four Musingu High School footballers allegedly transferred without following official procedures.
- Regional Director Jared Obiero has reminded schools that transfers must be initiated by parents through the official Ministry of Education transfer form.
- The ministry has directed Kakamega High School to release any other learners admitted irregularly.
The Ministry of Education (MoE) has ordered Kakamega High School to immediately release four students from Musingu High School who were allegedly admitted to Kakamega High School without following the required transfer procedures.
Western Regional Director of Education Jared Obiero said the ministry had received a complaint alleging that Kakamega High School coaches approached the four Musingu High School football players after the Chapa Dimba March held in Kisumu on September 12 and 13, 2026.
The four students are Robinson Oluoch, Carrilus Omware, Dickens Opiyo and Calvince Okello.
According to the letter dated September 21, the ministry also received a delegation of parents concerned about the alleged movement of the learners from Musingu High School to Kakamega High School.
Obiero reminded Kakamega High School that any transfer of a learner to another institution must be initiated by the parent through the official Ministry of Education transfer form. He directed Kakamega High School to immediately release the affected learners and return them to Musingu High School to enable them to complete their end-of-year assessments and examinations before progressing to the next grade.

The regional education office also directed Kakamega High School to release any other learners who may have been admitted without following the prescribed transfer procedures.
The matter has brought renewed attention to the recruitment of talented footballers by schools, particularly following inter-school competitions where institutions scout promising players.
The directive was copied to the Principal Secretary for Basic Education, the Head Directorate of Field Coordination and Compliance Assurance, the Regional Director of the Teachers Service Commission and the Kakamega County Director of Education.
The ministry’s letter did not indicate whether Kakamega High School had responded to the allegations or whether any further action would be taken against those involved.
