Kabete National Polytechnic (KNP) has graduated 49 candidates under the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) programme, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s efforts to certify skills gained through workplace experience.
The graduation ceremony was held at East African Packaging Industry (EAPI), which provided the industry environment where the candidates’ competencies were assessed and recognised.
KNP implemented the programme in partnership with the Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM), allowing workers to have skills acquired on the job formally assessed and converted into recognised qualifications.

Representing the Principal Secretary, State Department for TVET, the Director of the RPL Delivery Unit said the programme shows how TVET institutions can work with industry to recognise practical skills and improve workers’ opportunities.
The graduation places KNP at the centre of efforts to expand Recognition of Prior Learning, particularly for workers who have developed technical competencies through years of workplace experience but may not have formal qualifications.
The institution’s collaboration with KAM and EAPI also highlights the growing connection between training and industry, with workplace-based assessment providing a practical route for experienced workers to earn recognised qualifications.
