- KISE has launched a teacher training programme on identifying and screening learners with special needs under the KPEEL project.
- Education zones have been requested to nominate three teachers each to participate in the online training running from September 21 to 27, 2026.
- The initiative aims to strengthen inclusive education by equipping teachers with basic skills for early identification and referral of learners with special needs.
The Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE) will train teachers on the identification and basic screening of learners with special needs, as part of efforts to strengthen inclusive education in primary schools.
The training will be implemented under the Kenya Primary Education Equity in Learning (KPEEL) project and will target teachers in regular primary schools.
According to a notice issued to education officials, the online training is scheduled to run from September 21 to 27, 2026, between 4 pm and 6 pm daily. Each education zone has been requested to nominate three teachers from regular primary schools to participate in the programme.
The selected teachers are expected to provide their names, Teachers Service Commission (TSC) numbers, mobile phone contacts and email addresses for registration and communication ahead of the training.

The programme is expected to equip teachers with basic skills to identify learners who may have special educational needs and undertake initial screening before appropriate support and referrals are made.
The initiative comes amid continued efforts to promote inclusive education and ensure that learners with disabilities and other special needs are identified early and supported within the education system.
KISE, which specialises in training and capacity building in special needs education, is implementing the component under KPEEL to strengthen teachers’ capacity to respond to diverse learning needs in regular schools.
