- St Joseph’s Matiku Senior School has commissioned a new dining hall funded through NG-CDF.
- Principal Henry Mwali says the facility will improve hygiene, convenience and learner welfare at the school.
- Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse has also pledged support for a girls’ dormitory and computer laboratory.
The Principal of St Joseph’s Matiku Senior School, Henry Mwali, has described the newly commissioned dining hall as a major milestone and a legacy project for the institution.
Mwali termed Matiku a fast-growing sub-county school and thanked Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse for his role in supporting education development in the constituency and at the school in particular.
Mutuse is the current Member of Parliament for Kibwezi West Constituency.
The new dining hall was constructed through the Kibwezi West National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF).
“This is not just a building but a legacy in the school and the constituency. You have proved to be a true friend of education and a father of this constituency,” Mwali said.
Dining hall to improve learner welfare
The principal said the dining hall would be a game changer in four key areas: enhancing food safety and hygiene, improving convenience and time management, providing shelter from the scorching sun and wet weather, and ultimately supporting academic performance.
He, however, called for the construction of a girls’ dormitory, saying many learners would prefer to be boarders.
Mwali said the current dormitory was donated by the neighbouring primary school and cannot accommodate all the girls who require boarding facilities.
He also called for the construction and equipping of a computer laboratory, noting that the existing facility has only one computer.
He said there was a need to strengthen ICT facilities at the school as digital learning becomes increasingly important under Competency-Based Education.
Speaking while commissioning the dining hall, Mutuse promised to support the construction of a girls’ dormitory and a computer laboratory, as well as the equipping of the facility.

He, however, asked the school community to be patient as the projects are implemented.
