The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) has started a four-day training programme for youthful educators aimed at improving their digital skills and preparing them for the changing education sector. The KNUT/DLF Training for Youthful Educators began on Monday, September 14, 2026, at Hotel 67 in Nairobi and will run until September 17.
The programme has brought together young teachers from all eight regions of Kenya. The participants are expected to become the first Trainers of Trainers (ToTs) and later share the knowledge and skills gained with other teachers in KNUT regions across the country. The training focuses on helping teachers understand and adapt to the growing use of digital technology in education and professional activities.
KNUT said the programme is important as the world continues to move from traditional ways of working and communicating to digital systems, noting that teachers play an important role in education, community development and social transformation and therefore need to be equipped with skills to operate effectively in an increasingly digital environment.

The training is being facilitated by Dr Simon Omondi from the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA), who is guiding the educators on emerging opportunities and challenges linked to digital engagement. The programme also seeks to create a network of young educators who can support other teachers in adapting to new technologies and digital methods of learning and communication.
Participants have expressed enthusiasm about being part of the programme, which KNUT considers an important step towards strengthening the digital capacity of teachers. KNUT said it remains committed to investing in teachers and supporting them to respond to changes taking place in the education sector, with the union hoping the educators will not only gain new digital skills but also help other teachers adopt technology in their professional work. The programme comes as digital technology continues to influence how teachers teach, communicate, access information and interact with learners and education stakeholders.
