Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok has praised the Monire JSS football team for its impressive performance after representing Kenya at the 2026 East Africa School Games in Morogoro, Tanzania.
Barchok made the declaration while hosting the Monire JSS football team, which recently represented Kenya at the 2026 East Africa School Games in Morogoro, Tanzania.
The team from Rongena Manaret Ward, Sotik Sub County, had earlier clinched the national JSS soccer championship, earning the opportunity to represent the country at the regional competition.
Barchok described the achievement as a major milestone for the county and praised the players and their technical team for their hard work.
“We celebrate Monire Junior Secondary School, the National JSS soccer champions,” Barchok said.
Barchok praises players and technical team
He particularly recognised coach Nicholas Rotich and the teachers for guiding the young players to success.
“We celebrate Monire JSS, led by their coach Mr Nicholas Rotich, for their outstanding performance and for raising the flag of Bomet County in the region,” he said.
The governor said the success of the school team was complemented by Bomet APS FC’s recent performances in the country’s top-flight league.
“We have indeed shown that Bomet County is a land growing into a potential football giant,” Barchok said.
He urged young people across the county to take advantage of the growing sporting opportunities by identifying and nurturing their talents.
Barchok said sports could provide young people with viable careers while encouraging them to maintain focus on education.
“We want our young people to understand that talent can open doors. They should work hard to develop their sporting abilities while remaining committed to their education,” he said.
Sitting volleyball player recognised
The governor also honoured Salome Chepngeno, a Form Three student at St Paul’s Special High School, Ndanai, who represented Kenya in sitting volleyball during the East Africa Games.
Barchok congratulated Chepngeno for her achievement and encouraged other learners to participate in sports.
Her recognition, alongside that of the Monire JSS players, underscored the county’s growing emphasis on identifying and developing talent among young people.
The governor said the achievements should inspire schools, parents and communities to provide greater support for sporting activities.

The success of Monire JSS at the national level and its subsequent representation of Kenya regionally has further placed Bomet on the country’s sporting map, with the county leadership now eyeing greater achievements in football and other disciplines.
