Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) teachers in Bomet County raised concerns over the ongoing recruitment exercise, prompting a meeting with Governor Prof. Hillary Barchok to seek clarification and push for fair consideration of teachers who have been serving learners.
The meeting was held at the Governor’s Gallery at the County Government of Bomet offices and was attended by KNUT Bomet Branch Executive Secretary Langat Desmond, who joined the teachers in presenting their concerns to the county administration.
During the meeting, the teachers highlighted various issues surrounding the recruitment process, particularly the fate of those who had already been handling learners at different ECD centres before applying for the available positions.
Governor Barchok listened to the concerns and issued directions aimed at addressing some of the issues raised. Among the key resolutions was that teachers who had been handling learners and subsequently attended the recruitment interviews would be considered during the recruitment process.
The governor also directed that teachers who may have been posted to stations where they had not previously been handling learners could be accommodated through dispersal, where applicable. In cases where two teachers had been serving learners at the same station, the older teacher would be given priority for absorption, according to the resolutions reached during the meeting.

The engagement was described as cordial, with teachers allowed to present their grievances and seek clarification on the recruitment exercise. The outcome has offered renewed hope among the affected teachers, who are now awaiting implementation of the agreed measures as the recruitment process progresses.
KNUT Bomet Branch reaffirmed its commitment to representing teachers and ensuring their concerns are raised through appropriate channels as the county moves to address issues surrounding ECDE teacher recruitment.
