Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba has appointed Abdi Mouild Abdi as Non-Executive Chairperson of the Council of the Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE) for a three-year term.
Abdi is an accomplished educational administrator who has been honoured with the Order of Grand Warrior (OGW) for his four decades of distinguished service in education.
KISE was established in 1986 through Legal Notice No. 17 of February 14, 1986 and is mandated to train personnel in special needs education, conduct research, assess children with special needs for educational placement, design, produce, repair and maintain specialised teaching and learning materials and other assistive devices for persons with special needs and disabilities.

Ogamba has also appointed Daniel Njiru Mugendi and Fred Simiyu Barasa as members of the Placement Board of the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) for three-year terms. KUCCPS is responsible for placing thousands of students annually into university, college and technical and vocational institution programmes following the completion of secondary education.
The appointments come as Kenya continues to implement Competency-Based Education (CBE), under which learners are increasingly expected to make choices based on their abilities, interests, talents and career aspirations.
