- Mitua Girls Senior School has recognised learners who represented the institution at the national science exhibition.
- The students showcased their innovation alongside young scientists from across Kenya at the four-day event in Nairobi.
- Science Head Collins Wangila was also recognised for mentoring the school’s Young Scientists Kenya team.
Mitua Girls Senior School has honoured its young scientists after the institution’s team participated in the Young Scientists Kenya (YSK) National Science and Technology Exhibition held at Moi Girls School, Nairobi, during the school holiday.
The students were presented with certificates and YSK T-shirts by the school’s Chief Principal, Angelina Kosgei, during a ceremony at the institution on Friday.
The recognition followed the team’s participation in the national exhibition, where learners showcased their scientific innovation alongside other young scientists from across the country.
The school’s Head of Science and YSK patron, Collins Wangila, was also awarded a certificate for his role in mentoring and presenting the Mitua Girls team at the national exhibition.
Focus on STEM
The achievement has renewed the school’s focus on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), which remains a key pillar in preparing learners for careers in science, technology and innovation.
Ms Kosgei congratulated the students for their achievement, urging them to remain committed to scientific research and innovation.
The school also commended Wangila for his mentorship and guidance, saying his support had played an important role in preparing the learners for the national platform.
The success comes as schools across the country intensify efforts to expose learners to practical science, innovation and problem-solving skills.
Nurturing young scientists
Mitua Girls said it would continue nurturing young scientists and providing learners with opportunities to turn classroom knowledge into practical solutions.
The YSK programme provides a platform for learners to develop and showcase innovations while encouraging interest in STEM-related fields.
