Keiyo North MP Adams Kipsanai has assured locals that Tambach Teachers Training College and the upcoming Kerio Valley University College will coexist, dismissing fears that the college will be phased out.
In a statement to the press, the MP said the ongoing renovations at Tambach Teachers Training College will provide a better learning environment for diploma teacher trainees as the institution opens its doors to the first batch of university students.
The lawmaker clarified that both institutions will operate side by side, with a new university building set to be constructed next to Tambach High School.
“Both the college and Kerio Valley University will coexist as we build a new university building next to Tambach High School. The work will commence soon,” Kipsanai said.
Kipsanai allays fears over Tambach TTC
The statement by the legislator comes at a time when earlier reports had indicated that the teachers training college would be moved to pave the way for the establishment of the university, a constituent college of the University of Eldoret.
A bone of contention arose following the gazettement of Kerio Valley University College earlier this year, with locals protesting the move to establish it at the existing college, contrary to the previous plan to have the new university established in the Tot area, Marakwet East.
Kipsanai thanked the national government for heeding the call by local leaders to give the institution a facelift in a bid to improve education accessibility in the region.
“I sincerely thank President William Ruto for heeding our call to give this great institution a facelift,” the MP stated.
Leaders back expansion of education facilities
Kipsanai also appreciated the collective effort of the county leadership led by Interior Cabinet Secretary Onesimus Kipchumba Murkomen, saying the unity of leaders has been key to pushing development projects in the region.
Tambach TTC is one of the oldest teachers training colleges in the North Rift region and has produced thousands of teachers.
The planned Kerio Valley University College is expected to open its doors next month for the first batch of students admitted through the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service. The university is expected to expand access to higher education for residents of Elgeyo Marakwet and neighbouring counties.

The County Government of Elgeyo Marakwet says the first batch of university students is expected to report at Tambach in September 2026. KUCCPS currently lists both Kerio Valley University College and Tambach Teachers Training College separately among its institutions.
