A Grade 9 learner at Echariria Comprehensive School in Gilgil, Nakuru County, has been found dead after going missing on the eve of schools reopening for the new term.

The learner, identified as Grace Nyarua, reportedly went missing on the evening of Sunday, August 23, 2026, prompting her family and relatives to launch a search for her. Her body was discovered on Monday, August 24, along a railway line in the Mbaruk area of Gilgil Sub-County.

Preliminary reports indicate that Nyarua may have been attacked while on her way home, with observations at the scene reportedly pointing to signs of physical violence and a possible struggle before her death. The circumstances surrounding her death remain unclear, with questions now being raised over who attacked her and the motive behind the killing.

The incident has sparked concern among residents and the school community, particularly because it occurred just as learners were preparing to return to school.
