A second-year student at Mount Kenya University (MKU) has been found dead at her residence in Action area, Eldoret, in an incident that has prompted a police investigation.
The deceased, identified as Faith Jeptoo, was pursuing a Bachelor of Education Arts at the university. She was a resident of Kimowo/Kamokoiwo village in Kachebugus, Kapyego Ward, Marakwet East Sub-County, Elgeiyo-Marakwet County.
According to preliminary information shared with the family, Jeptoo is believed to have sustained injuries to the neck and forehead after she was allegedly attacked with a knife.
Her residence was reportedly found locked with a padlock, with the suspected assailant allegedly leaving with the keys. The circumstances surrounding the incident, including the events leading to her death, remain unclear.
Police begin investigations
The family reported the matter to Ainaptich Police Station in Moiben Sub-County, Uasin Gishu County, following the discovery of the student’s body.
Her remains were subsequently moved to the mortuary at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH), where they are awaiting further procedures.
Police have launched investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding Jeptoo’s death and identify the person responsible.
The incident has left the student’s family, friends and fellow students in shock as investigators work to piece together what happened before her death.
