- The West Pokot teaching fraternity has mourned the death of Teacher Stephen Lokakar, who died at Eldoret Referral Hospital on Monday.
- Colleagues, parents and County Secretary Joseph Sarich have paid tribute to Lokakar’s dedication and service to education.
- The family has scheduled Lokakar’s burial for Monday at Cheporomwai in Masol Ward, following a send-off from Kapenguria on Sunday.
The teaching fraternity in West Pokot is mourning the death of Teacher Stephen Lokakar, who died on Monday at Eldoret Referral Hospital while undergoing treatment, leaving colleagues, parents, learners and the wider community in shock.
His body has since been moved to Shalom Springs Private Hospital in Kapenguria, where it will be preserved as the family and friends finalise arrangements for his burial.
Tributes have continued to pour in for Lokakar, remembered by colleagues, parents and learners as a dedicated, compassionate and dependable educator whose impact went beyond the classroom. Parents who interacted with him described a teacher who listened, guided and encouraged learners, recognising that every child had unique abilities deserving of patience and opportunity.

His colleagues remembered him as a team player and mentor who valued collaboration within the teaching fraternity, describing him as calm, humble, respectful and hardworking, qualities they said contributed to a positive environment for both teachers and learners. For learners, he was recalled as an educator who balanced discipline with understanding, believing that academic guidance needed to be paired with moral direction.
Kunnopet County Secretary Joseph Sarich joined the growing list of mourners, conveying condolences to the bereaved family, colleagues and the wider community while commending Lokakar for his service and dedication to education and the role teachers play in shaping society’s future.

According to the current funeral programme, Lokakar’s body is expected to leave Shalom Springs Private Hospital, Kapenguria, on Sunday, ahead of burial scheduled for Monday at Cheporomwai in Masol Ward.
Colleagues have appealed to teachers, parents, friends and well-wishers to support the bereaved family through prayers, emotional support and any financial assistance available as the family prepares for his final send-off.
