Kenyan schools have hit the ground running at the 2026 East Africa Games in Morogoro, Tanzania, with Moi Girls Kamusinga and Musingu Senior School both securing places in the handball semi-finals.
Defending girls’ champions Kamusinga kept their unbeaten run intact after thumping Uganda’s Kawanda Secondary School 34-20 in their fourth Group A fixture, a result that keeps them firmly on course as they chase a second consecutive regional title.
The Kenyan side will wrap up their group-stage campaign against former champions Kiziguro Secondary School, with coach Godfrey Simiya eyeing another win to finish top of the pool. Simiya said the team remained aware that tougher tests lay ahead despite their strong start. “So far so good, we have had positive outcomes in our first four matches, but the work is not even halfway done because we aim to successfully defend our title, which means that we have to fight to the end,” he said.
On the boys’ side, national champions Musingu Senior School punched their ticket to the semi-finals with a 38-23 win over fellow Kenyans St Austin Matutu Memorial in an all-Kenyan Group A clash. Musingu will now face Kikuyu Secondary School in their final group match.

In girls’ volleyball, former East Africa champions Kesogon Mixed Secondary School moved into the semi-finals after beating Uganda’s Seroma Christian High School to secure their third Group A win, keeping alive their bid to reclaim the title they lost last year to Kwanthanze.
BACE Chepsaita also advanced to the last four in girls’ volleyball, joined by ACK Chepseaita, who eased past Uganda’s St Jerome Secondary School Ndama 25-20, 25-21, 25-15 in a fourth Group B match to seal their semi-final berth.
Soweto Secondary School closed out their Group B campaign strongly, defeating Uganda’s Katikamu SDA Secondary School 25-16, 25-20, 25-16, though their semi-final hopes remain uncertain after losses in their opening two matches.

In boys’ handball, Chesamisi Boys stayed in contention and needed a win over Tanzania’s Kajunjumele Secondary School to reach the semi-finals, while Kenya’s bronze medalists Matiliku were eliminated after failing to register a win in any of their Group A matches.
Kenya’s basketball campaign delivered mixed fortunes. Friends School Kamusinga bounced back from a narrow 75-79 defeat to Uganda’s Amus College by beating Tanzania’s St Jude 75-56, keeping alive their hopes of a last-four finish. It was a tougher outing, however, for reigning East Africa girls’ basketball champions Kaya Tiwi, who fell 81-72 to Uganda’s Nabisunsa.
