- She says parental support is particularly important as girls navigate the critical stage of puberty.
- Maweu also pledged to support teen mothers to resume their education and pursue their dreams.
Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) Board Director Dr Damaris Maweu has called upon parents to be at the forefront of talking to and protecting their girls to help them achieve their goals.
“Now that they are at home, kindly talk to them, guide them and try to understand them before and during the puberty stage, which is the most critical stage in their growth,” Maweu said.
She was speaking during a women’s economic empowerment meeting at Katangini, Mbooni Constituency, Makueni County, noting that as a leader, she will push to give teen mothers a second chance in education.
Second chance for teen mothers
“I am interested in the Woman Representative position. If by any chance a schoolgirl happens to become pregnant, through NGAAF I will make sure teen mothers are given a chance to continue with their studies and achieve their dreams,” Maweu said.
