Member of Parliament [MP] of Kiambaa Constituency, John Njuguna, is spearheading renovations in Wangunyu and Kibubuti Comprehensive Schools to update ageing facilities so students and teachers have safe, modern, and healthy spaces that support effective learning and better academic focus.

In Wangunyu Comprehensive School, roofing works have begun as renovations come to a close date ahead of the school re-opening.

In a status update, the MP noted that the project involved full renovation works, including walls, cabro installation, roofing, and installation of water tanks, among other repairs.

“We have made significant progress in the ongoing renovation works at Wangunyu Comprehensive School. New roofing works are set to begin tomorrow, and steadily but surely, Wangunyu will become a modern school offering a refreshed and more conducive environment for learning and teaching,” Njuguna said.

Similar renovation works are also underway at Kibubuti Comprehensive School, including refurbishing of walls, roofing, and cabro installation as part of efforts to improve the school’s infrastructure.

Njuguna has assured residents that the institution’s administration block will also be renovated once the ongoing works are completed, in a move aimed at creating a better learning and teaching environment for both learners and teachers.

“We are undertaking a full renovation of Kibubuti Comprehensive School to provide our learners and teachers with a conducive environment for learning and teaching… Once these works are complete, we will proceed with cabro paving to eliminate dust during the dry season and mud during the rainy season,” he said.

The legislator expressed optimism that the renovation works would be completed before the reopening of schools for the third term on August 24, 2026.

The ongoing improvements form part of broader efforts by the government to address infrastructure challenges in schools and provide learners with safe, clean and conducive environments for learning. The renovations also complement interventions being implemented by the Ministry of Education to improve infrastructure and enhance learning conditions in schools across the country.

Through the Kenya Primary Education Equity in Learning (KPEEL) programme and the Kenya Secondary Education Equity and Quality Improvement Programme (SEEQIP), the ministry is implementing various interventions targeting access, quality and equity in basic education.

Implementation documents under SEEQIP indicate that the government plans to construct or rehabilitate 1,200 classrooms and sanitation facilities in targeted schools.
