Schools in Uasin Gishu, Busia and Trans Nzoia counties have benefited from the donation of 50 water tanks, each with a capacity of 5,000 litres, aimed at improving access to safe and reliable water within learning institutions.
The Lake Victoria South Water Works Development Agency (LVSWWDA) has partnered with Sidian Bank to support water access for underserved learning institutions and communities across the Agency’s area of jurisdiction. The partnership was strengthened through the handover of the tanks, donated by Sidian Bank as part of its Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) initiative.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, LVSWWDA Chief Executive Officer Ms Jackline Kemunto commended Sidian Bank for its commitment to supporting water access initiatives, noting that the donation forms part of a broader framework between the Agency and the bank aimed at advancing rainwater harvesting programmes.
Sidian Bank has committed to donating a total of 200 water tanks to LVSWWDA, which will be delivered in batches to support institutions and communities within the Agency’s jurisdiction.
LVSWWDA Chairman Mr Dan Omino said the tanks would be distributed to schools, health centres and market centres, where they will help improve water availability and resilience, particularly in areas facing inadequate access to reliable water supplies. He further emphasised the Agency’s commitment to strengthening Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) as an important avenue for mobilising private-sector resources and expertise to improve service delivery.
“The Agency is open to advancing Public-Private Partnerships as a way of allowing the private sector to bring services closer to the people,” Mr Omino said.

Speaking during the handover, Sidian Bank Head of Branches Ms Loise Mwangi said the initiative forms part of the bank’s broader WASH programme and reflects its commitment to addressing critical development needs through partnerships with public institutions. She highlighted the importance of collaboration between the private and public sectors in promoting sustainable development and improving the quality of life of communities.
“The Western region is vast, with tremendous resources and economic opportunities. Limited access to water should not be a hindrance to the region’s economic potential. Our presence here demonstrates our commitment to partnering with public agencies and supporting initiatives that create meaningful social impact,” Ms Mwangi said.
The beneficiary schools are located in Turbo and Ainabkoi constituencies in Uasin Gishu County, Teso South Constituency in Busia County, and Cherangani Constituency in Trans Nzoia County. The bank said the initiative builds on its commitment to improving water access and sanitation standards in schools across the region.
School leaders welcomed the donation, saying it would help address water shortages and improve hygiene within their institutions.
Sidian Bank Head of Institutional Banking Mr Simon Mwangi said the programme focuses on schools because of the link between reliable water supply, sanitation and learning.
