Leaders have called on the public to embrace change, noting that while people often resist new ways of doing things at first, they eventually come to appreciate the benefits once they stabilise.

Speaking at Mulili Primary School grounds in Makindu Sub-county, Makueni County, State Department for Aviation and Aerospace Development official Teresia Mbaika said good leadership should be anchored on development, stressing that the challenges parents faced during their own school days should not be repeated for their children.

“We should always focus on development-oriented leaders. You cannot tell me that my children will face the exact challenges I faced when I was in school. This is a new era, and we must embrace change for the betterment of our children,” Mbaika said.

She noted that embracing change would help residents break away from inherited poverty in the region, ultimately improving their livelihoods.

Referencing recent unrest witnessed in Western Kenya this week, Mbaika called for peace as the country gears up for the next general election, urging residents to respect one another’s property.

“If you burn or damage property, remember that’s your neighbour’s property, and you are taking them back to start again, which is not good. Let us be our brother’s keeper, bearing in mind our children are looking upon us to be their role models,” she said.

Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse also called on residents not to let politics divide them, urging youths in particular to resist being used by politicians for personal or political gain.
