- Nyamira North MP Joash Nyamoko has dismissed claims that schools in the constituency lack electricity connections.
- He says NG-CDF temporarily prioritised electricity connectivity over other education infrastructure projects across the constituency.
- The MP says Sh33 million has been allocated to raise electricity connectivity to 70 per cent.
Nyamira North MP Joash Nyamoko has denied allegations from some residents who claim that schools in the constituency are not connected to electricity.
Speaking during a community engagement, Nyamoko said he used his NG-CDF to temporarily halt education infrastructure projects because he wanted to prioritise electricity connectivity across learning institutions in the area. According to the MP, without reliable power, many of the physical developments in schools would not serve their intended purpose.
Electricity critical for modern learning
Nyamoko explained that electricity connectivity is critical for modern learning. It enables schools to use computers and digital learning devices, which are now part of the Competency-Based Curriculum. It also allows for lighting in classrooms and libraries, making it possible for students to study in the evenings and improving safety within school compounds.
In addition, power supports laboratories, technical workshops and administrative offices, helping teachers to prepare lessons, store learning materials and manage school records efficiently.
He said that his constituency has reached 60 per cent electricity connectivity. He added that the Government has set aside Sh33 million to continue with the remaining phase and promised that by the end of this year, the constituency would have attained 70 per cent electricity connectivity.
He was speaking to the press in Nyamira town during a public engagement with residents.
The MP asked sceptics of roads, electricity and education to look at the establishment of Nyamira University, which has become a reality, and to shelve their shallow thinking and instead join the Government of the day for the quick development of the region.
