President William Ruto has praised Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba for spearheading the development of seven Bills aimed at streamlining and strengthening Kenya’s education sector, describing the legislative push as central to the government’s reform agenda.
“I am proud of the CS for Education, Julius Migos Ogamba, for lining up seven Bills in Parliament meant to streamline the education sector,” President Ruto said.
The President made the remarks on Friday during the 98th Kenya National Music Festival State Concert at Bungoma State Lodge, where he said the proposed legislation would play a critical role in advancing reforms across the education sector and provide a stronger framework for the implementation of Competency-Based Education.
The seven Bills are expected to address key areas within the education sector by strengthening governance, improving efficiency and enhancing accountability across different levels of learning. The proposed legislation comes at a time when the government is seeking to address challenges facing the sector, including governance, transition of learners, curriculum implementation and the management of education institutions.
Proposed law could bar teachers from striking during national exams
CS Ogamba attended the State Concert alongside President Ruto, First Lady Mama Rachel Ruto and Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki. He has been leading the Ministry of Education as it pursues a raft of reforms under the Competency-Based Education framework.
President Ruto’s endorsement places renewed focus on the proposed reforms as the government seeks to align Kenya’s education system with its long-term development priorities and the changing needs of learners. His remarks signal strong support from the Executive for the legislative agenda and could give momentum to the Bills as they proceed through Parliament.
