More than 200 students at Ruiru Technical and Vocational College (TVC) are set to benefit from a KSh3 million scholarship awarded through the Ruiru National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF), in a move aimed at expanding access to technical education and equipping young people with practical skills for the job market.
The scholarship cheque was presented by Ruiru Member of Parliament, Simon King’ara, during a visit to the institution in Gatong’ora, where he reaffirmed his commitment to supporting technical and vocational education as a key driver of youth empowerment and economic development.
Speaking during the event, the legislator said the scholarship programme was part of his pledge to ensure deserving students from the constituency are able to pursue technical training without being hindered by financial constraints.
“This morning, as promised, we delivered a scholarship cheque worth Sh3 million, courtesy of Ruiru NG-CDF, to Ruiru Technical and Vocational College in Gatong’ora. The scholarship will benefit more than 200 students pursuing various courses at the institution,” said the MP.

King’ara noted that technical and vocational institutions remain critical in equipping young people with practical skills that match the needs of the labour market. He said investments in skills development are essential in preparing graduates for employment, self-employment and entrepreneurship, adding that the government continues to prioritise technical education as a key pillar of economic transformation.
Following the presentation of the scholarship cheque, the MP toured the institution and inspected a number of training workshops where students were undertaking practical lessons in different disciplines. He visited the Fashion and Design, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Plumbing, Electrical Engineering and Cosmetology departments, among other training sections.
The legislator commended the college for providing industry-oriented training that equips learners with the technical competencies required in today’s competitive job market. He observed that technical institutions play a vital role in producing a skilled workforce capable of meeting the country’s growing demand for artisans, technicians and innovators across various sectors of the economy.

King’ara encouraged students to remain focused on their studies and make full use of the opportunities available through technical training, noting that practical skills have become increasingly valuable in the modern labour market.
The scholarship is expected to ease the financial burden on beneficiaries, enabling them to complete their studies and transition into productive careers while contributing to the socio-economic development of Ruiru Constituency and the country at large.
