2015 diploma teacher graduates appeal to TSC for registration and employment

Teachers who graduated as early as 2015 with a KCSE mean grade of C (Plain) and a Diploma in Secondary Teacher Education have appealed to the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to consider them for teacher registration and employment.

The teachers say they have remained unemployed for more than a decade despite successfully completing their professional training.

They argue that the proposed reduction of the minimum KCSE entry grade for diploma teacher training from C+ to C (Plain) should also benefit those who graduated years ago under the previous requirements.

According to the affected graduates, many have endured years of hardship without TSC registration numbers, locking them out of public teaching opportunities.

They are urging the Commission to apply the proposed policy changes fairly and give qualified diploma holders an opportunity to serve in public schools.

“We have suffered for years without TSC numbers despite being trained teachers. We appeal to the Commission to consider us when implementing the new regulations,” one of the affected graduates said.

The appeal comes as TSC reviews its Code of Regulations to lower the minimum qualification for diploma teacher registration to a KCSE mean grade of C (Plain), a move aimed at expanding opportunities for more trained teachers.
